This Week’s Quotation:
The sovereign soul who lives self-governed and at peace is centered in himself, taking alike pleasure and pain, heat, cold, glory, and shame. He is the Faithful and Illumined One, glad with joy of light and truth, dwelling safely in the Central Way, with senses subjugate.
~ Bhagavad Gita
Centered in the Way
What a wonderful recipe the Bhagavad-Gita gives for a productive and fulfilling life! And the key, of course, is to be centered in the truth of oneself, in the angelic reality at the core of every one of us. Operating from this inner core, though our outer forms may feel the pleasure and pain, heat, cold, glory, and shame, we are inwardly anchored and hold steady in the Central Way, with senses subjugate.
Living as we do in a world that daily brings us a veritable sea of distractions, how vital it is to maintain this central focus. Being a part of the body of humanity, we inevitably feel the political divisions in almost every nation, the existential peril posed by a changing climate, the turmoil brought by the coronavirus pandemic (even if not personally infected), and a host of personal issues.
Shall we allow ourselves to become involved and even controlled by all of the influences coming to us from dysfunctional human culture, or will we remain the Faithful and Illumined One, glad with the joy of light and truth? Only as the latter can we serve and do the essential spiritual work in consciousness that will release the ordering power of love capable of returning humanity to the Central Way.
About Open Windows
We, the authors of this blog, dedicate it to the transparent exploration of the world’s sacred scripture and enlightened spiritual thought. We believe that the original inspiration of all faiths comes from a common source, named and revered in a myriad of ways. With that understanding, the innumerable symbols, beliefs, and practices of faith cease to divide. They become open windows to a common reality that inspires and unifies us. We find deeper insight and nourishment in our own faith and from the expression of faith from others.
We hope these weekly quotations and meditations speak to your heart and soul.

“self-governed and at peace” …. if one had to describe a way of being in five words or less, this is a great option … So wonderful to see the Bhagavad Gita featured and to hear Jerry’s voice in this way. Multi-thanks and here’s to THE LIGHT! Namaste, Tom
