This Week’s Quotation:
First there must be order and harmony within your own mind. Then this order will spread to your family, then to the community, and finally to your entire kingdom. Only then can you have peace and harmony.
~ Confucius
Bringing Order, Peace, and Harmony
What do you think establishes order and harmony in the human mind? I believe there is an ordering principle at work in the very design of creation. We may observe it in nature, in the organic structure of our own bodies, in the harmonious interaction of celestial bodies in our galaxy, and in so many other ways.
But how do I bring this implicit order into my mind, which is so often beset with disorder and dissonance? Is it not in the stillness of heart and mind where order and harmony are discovered? A meditation practice may provide access to this inner stillness and center the mind at least for the duration of the meditation.
There is a way of making all of life a meditation: simply by consistently honoring and revealing in living the ultimate power source of the universe, namely Love. This is guaranteed to bring harmony and order to the mind, heart, and body. And, as Confucius implies, it is contagious, spreading to family, community, kingdom, and world.
About Open Windows
We, the authors of this blog, dedicate it to the transparent exploration of the world’s sacred scripture and enlightened spiritual thought. We believe that the original inspiration of all faiths comes from a common source, named and revered in a myriad of ways. With that understanding, the innumerable symbols, beliefs, and practices of faith cease to divide. They become open windows to a common reality that inspires and unifies us. We find deeper insight and nourishment in our own faith and from the expression of faith from others.
We hope these weekly quotations and meditations speak to your heart and soul.
