This Week's Quotation:
Be generous in prosperity and thankful in adversity, Be fair in thy judgment, and guarded in thy speech. Be a lamp unto those who walk in darkness, and a home to the stranger. Be eyes to the blind, and a guiding light unto the feet of the erring. Be a breath of life to the body of humankind, a dew to the soil of the human heart, and a fruit upon the tree of humility.
~ Baha'u'llah, Founder of the Baha'i Faith
Sacred Pledge
What Baha'u'llah is offering is an opportunity to take a sacred oath. What changes are we willing to commit to so we evolve beyond long-held separating patterns of being?
When I make a sacred pledge, I find it to be a welcome and powerful refocusing of my mind. That's very helpful at this time since adverse world circumstances generate a lot of uncertainty and fear in the collective that might infiltrate our perceptions unless we consciously decide to see and respond differently.
When I vow to express specific qualities of being, I have found that those declarations remain at the forefront of my awareness. I typically light a candle and write the oath down to honor the sacredness of my commitment.
Each day many opportunities to perceive and respond differently arise to remind me of my sacred pledge. For example, a circumstance will arise, and a small voice from my heart will whisper, Ah, here is a lovely chance to express forgiveness and compassion. Or, Breathe and reconsider your response.
Might we resolve to respond to whatever life puts before us with reverence, respect, and kind-heartedness? Then we are a breath of life to the body of humankind. Do you smile at the beauty of that too? Wonderful! Because as the masters teach, smiling ignites our internal love engine. And smiles are contagious.
About Open Windows
We, the authors of this blog, dedicate it to the transparent exploration of the world's sacred scripture and enlightened spiritual thought. We believe that the original inspiration of all faiths comes from a common source, named and revered in a myriad of ways. With that understanding, the innumerable symbols, beliefs, and practices of faith cease to divide. They become open windows to a common reality that inspires and unifies us. We find deeper insight and nourishment in our own faith and from the expression of faith from others.
We hope these weekly quotations and meditations speak to your heart and soul.

Thanks, Terri,
Great advice to “breathe and reconsider your response”. That works for me 🙂
Might we resolve to respond to whatever life puts before us with reverence, respect, and kind-heartedness? Such a beautiful and heart-felt decision…..
How beautiful! I have always heard that we know what we express. “If you want to know Love, express Love.” And so it goes… Thank you for sharing this inspiring vision…
