This Week's Quotation:
The scripture says, "We will eat the fruit of our words." Words are like seeds. You are planting seeds when you talk. At some point, you're going to eat that fruit.
When you speak something out, you give life to what you're saying. If you continue to say it, eventually that can become a reality. Whether you realize it or not, you are prophesying your future. You're going to reap fruit from the exact seeds that you've been sowing.
~Joel Osteen
Words as Blessings
I love this reminder from Joel Osteen about the power of our words. It’s great to reflect on how often our words are a blessing to ourselves and others and how often they might be creating or escalating hardships and misfortune.
I appreciate the simile, “words are like seeds.” It encourages us to be conscientious when we speak and choose the right seeds for creating the reality we welcome experiencing. It also supports us in being aware of the word seeds others are sowing when they talk. Then, when we hear others speak words that plant weeds, we can offer them empowering word seeds.
Certainly, we all get discouraged at times, and we all have negative thoughts. The glory is that we get to choose how we speak about them. It doesn’t have to be the same old words, creating the same old dispiriting stories, unless we continue to tell it that way. We can choose words that uplift, inspire, and demonstrate how even the challenges we face are a blessing.
Let's catch ourselves when we find that our words are limiting the expression of God’s Glory through us. Our journey as awakened beings is to strive for mastery as we evolve our experience. Let’s use our words as blessings. Vitalizing new frontiers await us as we use the power of our words to celebrate life's magnificent diversity and spread grace and prosperity to blossom all over this beautiful planet.
About Open Windows
We, the authors of this blog, dedicate it to the transparent exploration of the world's sacred scripture and enlightened spiritual thought. We believe that the original inspiration of all faiths comes from a common source, named and revered in a myriad of ways. With that understanding, the innumerable symbols, beliefs, and practices of faith cease to divide. They become open windows to a common reality that inspires and unifies us. We find deeper insight and nourishment in our own faith and from the expression of faith from others.
We hope these weekly quotations and meditations speak to your heart and soul.

Hi Terri. This is so well put … both by you and by Joel. May the word-seeds I give be ever more conscious, sacred, and selective. Deep thanks for this author/visionary, theme, spirit, and Holy thought. Love, tom
Joel Osteen’s words ring true to me! What do we say about our experience, what do we say about our future or what our day is going to be like! I watch what I say about others, is it empowering or limiting? Are we building up or tearing down what we say about others! I think the attitude of Life is to lift up!! Let me align myself with the power of life!!
Let’s use our words as blessings. Terri – there were so many beautiful thoughts in your post – these are the ones that touched me most deeply to have and to hold in my heart.
The message that you, Terri and Joel, have so eloquently brought regarding words not only applies to our spoken words but also to our written words. The words you write, Terri, in these blogs week after week so effectively demonstrate the power of words to uplift and bless.
